2007-2008 Budget Vote and Trustee Election

2007-08 Budget Vote and Election of the Sachem Central School District will take place on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 commencing at 6 am and ending at 9 pm in each of the twelve (12) election districts.

The Public Hearing on the proposed budget of the School District will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 8 pm at Samoset Middle School. Copies of the proposed budget are available at each school building and District Office as well as online.

Candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be nominated by petitions. Each petition shall be directed to the District Clerk and be signed by at least 228 qualified voters of the District. Each petition shall be filed with the District Clerk during regular business hours and not later than 5 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007.

In light of the withdrawal of a candidate for the seat on the Board of Education last held by David Aronow, the time for filing nominating petitions for such seat has been extended by law to May 3, 2007 at 5 pm.

All persons previously registered for the general election and who have voted at any annual or special district meeting or election held during the last four calendar years shall be included among those eligible to vote on May 15, 2007 without further registration. Registration is conducted daily at all schools and at the Office of the District Clerk during regular business hours on any school day, except that no registration will be permitted after May 10, 2007 for the May 15, 2007 vote. On Thursday, May 3, between the hours of 5 pm and 9 pm and on Saturday, May 5, between the hours of 9 am and 12 noon, special registration will take place at the District Clerk’s Office, 245 Union Avenue, Holbrook.

Qualified registered voters can obtain applications for absentee ballots from the District Clerk, 471 1331, at least seven (7) days before the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

Absentee ballot applications will also be made available on the District’s website www.sachem.edu. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5 pm on Tuesday, May 15.
