Superintendent's Office

August 2024

Dear Sachem Students and Families;
Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and had a chance to relax with family and friends. We are delighted and eager to have your children back in the buildings on Thursday, September 5th.

As I begin my new role as Superintendent, I am excited to celebrate Sachem's 70th anniversary. As you know, Sachem is a district filled with pride and tradition, and we will be highlighting and celebrating all that makes Sachem special in honor of this anniversary.

I want to take the time to thank our facilities, grounds, custodial, clerical, teaching staff, counselors, and administrators for getting our buildings ready to welcome everyone back.

Full engagement of our students in the learning process and connecting with our families is a theme we will be emphasizing throughout the year. Each child and each family contribute in ways that make our school stronger and build upon the community pride that has always characterized the Sachem School District.

As we begin the school year, we encourage students and parents to actively participate in the learning process. There are many ways we can accomplish this:

  • Take steps to ensure academic, attendance, and behavioral expectations are understood, supported, and reinforced.
  • Communicate with the schools. The most effective communication is established directly with your child's teachers, counselor, and coaches. Contact your child's principal if the problem cannot be resolved at this level.
  • Attend school events whenever possible including open house, social events, and important parent/teacher conferences.
  • Make time to discuss with your child information sent home from school. You will receive information from school both in paper and electronic form through school messenger. Please also follow along all that is happening in Sachem through our social media accounts, website, and monthly newsletters.
  • Empower your child to be as independent and as resourceful as possible. While expectations vary by level, all students benefit from learning skills such as selfadvocacy, communication, and problem solving. Some problems however can't be solved by students, so please seek out school staff to help resolve problems as early as possible to prevent small problems from becoming larger concerns.

As we welcome your child back to school, we want to foster true partnerships with our students and families to ensure success for each child. We are honored to be part of their educational journey. I look forward to the new school year and working with you to ensure the success and welfare of our children.

Sincerely,
