Substance Abuse

Substance abuse prevention and intervention services are available at Sachem East.  Mr. Adam Intravia , CASAC,. Is available to students and families as our Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Mr. Intravia began working at East in 2015, after having worked his first  five years in our district  providing counseling at both Sagamore & Sequoya Middle Schools. He has worked at Outreach Project, Seafield Services, and Long Island Center for Recovery, where he has experience in rehab/detox/in-patient, outpatient, and Intensive outpatient care for adolescents, adults, and families. Mr. Intravia is available to our students and their families Monday through Friday in our Guidance Office. Counseling services are offered for a variety of issues related to school functioning such as: substance abuse, intervention, prevention and referrals, attendance problems, anxiety disorders, stress occurring at home, AFY/PINS cases w/ legal system involvement, or any other concern that may interfere with a healthy and happy life. Referrals for other levels of treatment- like outpatient, residential living, self-help groups, mental health or medical care, and legal support- are available, and counseling will focus on providing the insight and skills necessary for optimal functioning, as well as supporting academic success. Students may self-refer or parents, teachers, and staff may contact “Mr. I” if they have a concern about someone’s alcohol or drug use negatively impacting their life or others.
