The Senior Class, student body, and staff members of Sachem North would like to congratulate Lauren Breuer for receiving the Student Award from ALS Ride for Life!  After Lauren’s grandmother passed away from ALS in January 2016, she organized a successful fundraiser and had her girls’ swim team challenge the varsity football team in a swimming competition which raised more than $2,000 for ALS Ride for Life.  Lauren will receive the award on Marth 7th at an Honoree Recognition Benefit at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.  Congratulations, Lauren.  We are so proud of you.  Please stop by D221 and see Mrs. Pickersgill for a special gift!

On Tuesday, January 30th at 7 p.m., come on down to the Auditorium for our first ever songwriter’s concert.  It will be an awesome night of student-composed songs and performances.  Admission is free so come on down and support your classmates.  See you there!

Attention students of Sachem North:  The next STEM meeting will be on Tuesday, January 30th during 9th period in Room E208.  Any student interested in Astronomy is encouraged to attend.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. LoCascio in Room E208.

Attention All Animal Lovers:  For the next three days during homeroom, the National Honor Society will be sponsoring a “Pennies for Puppies” campaign.  Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a large dog crate for The Animal Adoption Center in Medford.  National Honor Society students will be visiting each homeroom hoping to collect spare change over the course of the next three days!  If you have a big heart and some spare change, it could go a long way to helping this local organization to continue rescuing doggies in need!

It’s Dave and Busters Gamers’ Day!  Join your fellow club members on Saturday evening, February 10th, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Dave and Busters in Islandia for some fun.  We will have a semi-private room with a buffet for dinner (sliders, chicken nuggets, mini pizza and more.)  Unlimited soda and tea.  Also, you will be given a $20 game card with access to unlimited video games all night.  All this for $35!  Money will be due by January 26th.  See Ms. Dansky in Room B105 to pick up permission slips.  Our next meeting will be held in the Library after school on January 26th.

Attention all members of the Foreign Language Honor Society:  There will be a meeting in the Little Theatre on January 18th.

Attention all students and staff:  Please help reduce plastic waste at Sachem North!  There are now 14 water bottle recycling bins around the school.  Please make note of the locations in the Octagon, by the Auditorium, inside and outside of both gyms and both cafeterias, and outside of each locker room.  These bins are for water bottles only.  Thank you for doing your part to help reduce plastic trash!

Foreign Language Honor Society members:  Please remember our Book Drive in collaboration with our Librarians, Ms. Haussner and Ms. Berthold.  We are collecting books from now through January!  Please bring books to B209 or directly to the library!

Attention all students and staff:  The Box Tops for Education contest will be ending in two weeks.  Be sure to check the dates on the Box Tops.  Everything will be collected next week.

The Tutoring Center, which is located inside the Library, is open every day.  Any student who needs help with their Math, Science, English or History classes is encouraged to visit the Tutoring Center during their lunch period.  A student from the National Honor Society will be there to assist you.  You must go to lunch first and ask the lunch duty teacher for a tutoring center pass, since space is limited.

Do you like learning more about your classmates and teachers?  Do you enjoy Instagram?  Then please give HumansOFSNHS a follow and start learning more about the people inside these halls.  The Peer Education and Student Leadership classes have the Instagram page up and running with over 200 posts so far.  Give us a follow, throw us a like, but more importantly, learn about others before judging them.  We all have a story to tell one student at a time.  If you’d like to be featured on the page, please stop in to Room D217 throughout the day and be photo ready!  We all matter!  Let’s always strive to treat each other with kindness and respect.
