Committee Descriptions for Sagamore Middle School (SMS) PTSA
Arts-in-Education: a year-round committee which researches and secures programs to be brought into the school, with the focus on character building and appreciation of the arts. Monthly meetings are usually held on the first Friday of the month at 10am. You may be asked to attend and evaluate certain programs.
Book Fair: Scholastic Book Fair to be held in the fall. Volunteers needed to assist the students during the fair.
Bulletin board/photography: a year-round committee responsible for taking photographs at various SMS events and displaying them on the bulletin boards at SMS.
Council Delegate: Attends monthly (evening) PTA Council meetings and reports back to the SMS PTSA Board.
Fundraising - Spirit Wear: a year-round committee that purchases and distributes clothing to be sold during the year.
KidsStuff Books: One of our first fundraisers of the year. Organize books to get distributed to classrooms. Collect money and unsold books.
Membership: Responsible for entering PTSA memberships online. Works on developing incentives to increase membership in the Unit.
Parliamentarian: a committee of one (usually) who needs to be familiar with the SMS PTSA bylaws to ensure proper protocol is followed at PTSA meetings, during elections, and at other formal venues. Attendance at PTSA meetings is required.
Procurement: Contacts national and local businesses for donations.
Reflections: Runs the Reflections program along with a teacher at Sagamore.
School Pictures: October 3rd & 4th – Organize a group of at least 5 parents each day to assist in organizing classes to take individual pictures.
SEPTA Representative: a committee of one (or two) who attends the monthly SEPTA meetings and gives a summary report of the minutes of those meetings at the SMS PTSA meetings.
Staff Recognition Luncheon: a committee that organizes, shops for, and serves the year-end luncheon for the SMS teachers and staff, to be held during the last week in June.
Volunteers: (1) person to work with the chairpersons and the board to make arrangements for, and keep track of volunteers for all PTSA events.
