Tamarac Elementary School

Principal's Message

October 2018

Dear Tamarac Community,

I cannot believe that we have completed our first month of school already.  It certainly went fast.  Our first PTA meeting and class parent tea is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17th.  The tea will begin at 6:00 PM and the PTA meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.  We hope to see you all there!

Class pictures are scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2018.  If you are not purchasing a picture package, your child’s photo still needs to be taken.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the individual picture and class picture.

Our annual visit from the fire department is scheduled for October 2nd and 3rd.  This is always a great experience for our children and an opportunity for our parents to discuss their emergency plans and what to do in case of an emergency.

On Friday, October 5th, we will be having our Early Dismissal Drill.  Students will exit the building silently and leave school 15 minutes earlier than usual.  Please make necessary arrangements so that someone is there for your child on that day.  School will be closed on Monday, October 8th for Columbus Day.

Friday, October 12th, will be our PTA Movies Under the Stars!  Come join us.  The movie will begin at 6:45 PM.  We will be seeing Transylvania 3. The movie will be held on the front lawn.  If the weather does not cooperate, our movie will move inside to the gym.

Tuesday, October 16th, Tamarac’s Fathers’ Club will be hosting our annual Arrowette Dance Clinic.  Flyers have been sent home.  Should you need another flyer, one can be found on our website.  It is always a great time, please join us.

Our first Superhero Assembly is scheduled for October 19th.  Please make sure that your child is dressed in their best superhero outfit.  It is always wonderful to celebrate our students on how they make our community a better place with consistent acts of kindness.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  There will be a variety of activities to show support for this illness that has affected way too many Long Islanders and way too many women in our community.  Please consider supporting the various activities that will be held this month.

Mark your calendars for Friday, November 23rd, to join the Tamarac Fathers’ Club for a private screening of the movie Wreck it Ralph 2 at the PJ Cinemas.  $10 per ticket includes popcorn, soda and the ticket.  Estimated start time for the movie will be 9:00 AM.  Please invite your friends and family to join us.  More information will be forthcoming.

On October 31st, we will conduct our annual Halloween Parade.  The parade starts at 9:45 AM.  Please remember that scary or bloody costumes are not permitted.  Plastic knives, swords, etc. are also not allowed.  Remember that the participants in our parade include our Kindergarten students and there are many younger family members who come and watch our parade.  Please help us make it a great experience for our kids and our families.  All class parties will begin immediately after the parade and we will continue to limit the number of parents who join us for these fall parties.  Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Please continue to include all information in your notes pertaining to any changes to dismissal for your children.  If they are going home with another family, please make sure to include the student’s name, their classroom teacher and who will be picking them up. The same information is required for a change in buses; please include the specific bus and the first and last name of the student they are going home with.  Please also make sure that the friend’s parent sends in a note as well.  We cannot send home a child to a different house without that parent’s prior approval.

Please remember that the front doors of Tamarac open at 9:00 AM.  Any child who will utilize our breakfast program must have a bus pass signed by their parents to leave the bus early.  Should a student leave the bus early, they must purchase a complete breakfast.  Please continue to escort and sign your child in at the Greeter’s Desk if your child arrives late.  We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation.

The cut off time for early dismissal continues to be at 2:45 PM.  If you need to pick up your child early, please do it before this time.  I strongly encourage you to utilize our walker line so we do not disrupt the learning process.   Walkers are dismissed at 3:10 PM through the cafeteria doors.

We look forward to seeing our families at upcoming events.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to e-mail me.  Enjoy the beautiful fall weather!

Sincerely,

Michael S. Saidens
