Tamarac Elementary School

Principal's Message

June 2018

Dear Tamarac Community:

What an amazing year!  I cannot believe we have already reached the last month of school and our June calendar is packed.  There are a tremendous number of fun, educational activities planned for the final month of school for all of our children.

The deadline for placement letters for the upcoming school year has passed.  We have begun to work on grouping students heterogeneously for the upcoming school year.  Please do not send in any placement letters going forward.  I greatly appreciate all of the letters that I have received; there have been many.  I will do my best to honor your requests, but please understand it is impossible to honor all of them, especially any letter requesting specific students to be placed with or students to avoid.  As always, specific teacher requests will not be honored.

Field Day is scheduled for Friday, June 1st. This will be a full day of school which is different than previous years.  We will be celebrating as a whole school at the end of the day.  Please allow your child to stay for the full day of school and participate in our celebration.  Field day will begin at 9:30 AM and end at approximately 11:15 AM.

Parents are welcome to view our Field Day events from behind the roped off area.  Should we have inclement weather, Field Day will be indoors and, unfortunately, parents will not be able to view the activities.  Should we need to have an indoor event, I will send out a Connect-Ed message to our school community and a text message.

Our 5th Grade Moving-Up Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19th at Sachem East.  Students need to be at East by 4:30 PM.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:00 PM.

Our last day of school is Thursday, June 21st.  This will be a full day for all students and they will be dismissed at regular time.

I would like to thank our PTA for all of the wonderful activities they have facilitated for our students this year.  Our students were treated to a myriad of great programs and field trips.  I would also like to thank Lisa Haggerty for serving as our PTA President the past two years; she has done a fantastic job.  We are looking forward to the great activities that are already in the works for the 2018-2019 school year.

I’d also like to thank our Father’s Club.   They have created numerous fun activities for the Tamarac Community and our students.   Thanks goes to Vinny Reynolds for his dedication to Tamarac and all of his hard work as the Father’s Club President.

Please know that these two organizations are only able to do these wonderful things for our children because of our community support.   On behalf of both organizations, please accept our thanks and appreciation for supporting their activities and fundraisers.

I would like to congratulate all of our fifth grade students for the completion of their elementary educational career.  They have done a wonderful job.  We are proud of them and wish them the best of luck as they embark on their journey at Seneca Middle School.  They will be greatly missed.

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Linda Bergman, our Speech Pathologist, and Annie Healy, one of our Kindergarten teachers, for their many years of service to our students and our community.  They have made a long lasting positive impression on so many students. They have dedicated themselves over the past 30 years to the Sachem community and on behalf of the students, faculty, and parents, I want to wish them a happy, healthy and wonderful retirement.  They will be greatly missed!

Please make sure our students are active readers this summer.  The best way to help keep our students’ skills sharp is having them read every day for 20 minutes.  The Sachem Library program is another worthwhile program to look into for your child.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to wish our Tamarac students and their families a safe, healthy and happy summer.  We look forward to seeing you all throughout the halls of Tamarac in June and welcoming you back in September.

Have a great summer,

Michael S. Saidens
